As part of the Council’s Asset Strategy service, the Flood Risk Strategy team oversees the Authority’s statutory duties as the Lead Local Flood Authority (LLFA) and Coastal Authority.
The team prepares and monitors the Local Flood Risk Management Strategy and Coastal Strategy along with other relevant plans and policies. At present the team manages the largest flood and coastal risk investment programme of any English local authority and oversees an extensive programme of high value flood alleviation schemes that aim to reduce flood risk from a variety of sources.
The team directs the Council’s overall approach to flood and coastal risk management including operational maintenance planning. The team works closely with other flood risk management authorities including the Environment Agency, Internal Drainage Boards and the local water company.
